The Role

Ensure finished product specifications are generated in approved customer formats for all customers and own brand products to agreed timescales.
Accurate inputting and maintenance of online retailer & supplier portals including the management of information flow and accurate input for the NPD process
Review and maintain up to date Customer Specifications
Review and maintain up to date Raw Material and Packaging Specifications
Generate and amend where necessary, packaging information, which complies with legal and customer requirements including guidance.
Maintain and update site systems in accordance with specifications progress.
Approval of new raw material suppliers and new raw materials in accordance with site and customer requirements
Management of raw material specifications and documentation ensuring legal compliance and full traceability
Dealing with customer and suppliers for queries, specifications reviews and SAQ’s.
Present raw material and customer specification information during customer and 3rd party audits.
Maintain and develop excellent relationships with internal persons and departments within the company and external persons including customers and suppliers.

Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate would have experience within a similar role in the food manufacturing industry and have knowledge of writing specifications for retailers and raw materials. With, strong communication and influencing skills, the successful candidate will be comfortable in dealing with a wide range of people at all levels.

The Specification Technologist role is a busy role with multiple tasks and tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will enjoy analysing information and have the ability to transfer data accurately and clearly within reports.

Essential / Desirable skills include:

Experience within the Food Industry and/or a Food related Degree
Finished Product Specification Writing experience on Retailer Portals
Experience completing raw material specifications and obtaining information from suppliers
Knowledge of food processing and legislation to produce information which complies with legal and customer requirements.
Experience completing Customer Supplier Assurance Questionnaires and HARA’s
Strong awareness of allergens
Knowledge of veganism guidelines and standards.
IT literate in all aspects of Microsoft Office
Understanding of HACCP principles, nutrition information and food law legal labelling
Excellent communicator with a strong attention to detail
Self-motivated and intuitive
Confident working within a factory environment
